Open Registration at Dean College

For people with busy schedules who don’t have time for college, Dean College School of Professional and Continuing Studies offers spring programs to enhance their career goals with courses, a degree, or career certificates. Registration for Sessions 1 (Jan. 22-Mar. 8) and 2 (Mar. 19-May 10) is now open.

Accelerated Courses are offered evenings, Saturdays and online, along with traditional semester-length courses. Information, schedules and registration are available at www.dean.edu. Registration can also be made via phone 508-541-1624, mail, fax 508-541-1941, or in person at Dean Hall, Student Administrative Services, 99 Main Street, Franklin. To meet with an advisor, call the Continuing Studies office. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.Monday through Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m..

Dean College offers Continuing Studies programs year-round. The campus is located near the Franklin/Dean College MBTA commuter rail line, Route 140, and Interstate 495.

Dean College Baseball Clinic

The Dean baseball coaches and players will be offering a three day Spring Training Baseball Clinic for Ages 7 - 15 on Saturday February 17th, Sunday February 18th and Monday February 19th. There are two sessions to choose from: Session 1 is from 8:30 am - 10:00 am and Session 2 is from 10:00 am - 11:30 am. The clinic will take place at Dean College in the Pieri Gym, located on School Street in Franklin. The cost for the three day clinic is $75.00 and all proceeds go to our spring training trip to Florida in March. Please register early as there are only 30 spaces available per session. Saturday Afternoon Foreign Film Matinee

The Friends of the Franklin Library will present last year’s Oscar winning Best Foreign Film staring Italian comic Robert Benigni on Saturday, January 13th at 2:30 p.m. The event is free. Popcorn and soda will be served. The film is a story of an Italian comic who is sent to a Nazi concentration camp but is still able to find love and laughs. According to Time Magazine “Although the film is full of laughs, it doesn’t try to hide the horrors of the holocaust.” The Friends of the Franklin Library is a non-profit, all volunteer group dedicated to the support and enhancement of the nation’s first public library. Franklin Republican Town Committee

The Franklin Republican Town Committee (FRTC) will have its first meeting of 2007 at 7:30 on Thursday night February 1, 2007. The meeting will be on the third floor of the Municipal Building. The new chairman of the Massachusetts Republican Party will be announced. The FRTC is looking for volunteers to work with Republican candidates for the Democratic vacated positions throughout Massachusetts. We will also be discussing the latest budjet considerations proposed to the Franklin Town Council. We invite all Republican voters in Franklin to attend. Small Wonders - Playtime for 2's and 3's

You are invited to attend an Open House/Playdate for Playtime for 2's and 3's program; a great opportunity for children who miss the preschool cutoff to ease separation anxiety, learn to share, develop relationships with peers, and for mom's to have a morning to run errands, take a class etc. T

The playtime program is 2.5 hours and during that time we have story time, circle, sing-a-long, craft and a snack. For those interested in a slightly longer program, I will offer a lunch bunch extending the program till 1pm. For any parents needing part time, full day care, I will have openings on Tuesday and Thursday for a full day session.

The open house will be Friday, January 12th from 9-11:00 am. My home is located at 30 Philomena Way in Franklin. If anyone has any questions or concerns, I can be reached at basilefamily@comcast.net or at 508-346-3214.

At that time, I will be accepting enrollments for the following sessions:

Summer Session:

Monday and Wednesday from 9am - 1pm

2007-2008 School Year:

Curbside Christmas Tree Collection

American Waste Services will be conducting curbside collection of Christmas trees on SATURDAY, JANUARY 13TH, ONLY! Please note the date in the winter edition of the Curbside Chronicle is incorrect.

Trees must be free of tinsel, ornaments, metal hooks and lights. Trees placed in plastic bags will NOT be collected. Your tree must be curbside by 7:00 AM on January 13th in order to be collected.

If you miss this collection, you may bring your tree to the Beaver Street Recycling Center. The Center is open Tuesdays 12PM - 3PM, Friday and Saturday 8AM - 3PM.

Open Auditions for "Into The Woods"

Franklin Performing Arts Company is holding open auditions for Into The Woods on Saturday, January 20 at 1:00 p.m. for ages 13 - 18 and at 1:45 p.m. for adults at the Franklin School for the Performing Arts at 38 Main Street in Franklin. Those auditioning should prepare 16 measures of a song composed by Stephen Sondheim. The role of the Witch has already been cast.

Into The Woods will be presented on March 10 and 11, 2007 at Horace Mann Auditorium in Franklin. Box Office opens January 22.
